Flush, not storm-proof

On a flush casement the opening sash sits level with the face of the frame when it is closed, so the window shows slim, even sightlines with no stepped edge. A storm-proof casement overlaps the frame instead and leaves a visible step around the opening. Cross glazing bars

A horizontal and a vertical astragal bar split the light into four panes over a sealed double-glazed unit, so you keep the traditional look without the heat loss of old single glazing.
