Planning in Enfield

Do You Need Planning Permission for New Windows in Enfield?

Check first: many of Enfield’s conservation areas have Article 4 directions. In 2006 alone the council made them for 11 areas, including Bush Hill Park, Clay Hill, Forty Hill, Hadley Wood, Winchmore Hill and Trent Park.

The council lists every direction on its Article 4 directions page, from Enfield Lock in 1982 to Enfield Town, in force since January 2018. Each direction removes rights for specified works, so check what yours covers before you order.

Outside an Article 4 area, a house keeps its permitted development rights for windows; flats don’t have them. The government’s Article 4 direction dataset maps directions by council, though it warns the data isn’t complete.

Listed buildingListed building consentNational Heritage List for England

If the house is listed, any change to the windows needs listed building consent. Check the address on Historic England’s National Heritage List for England. Applying is free, the council has 8 weeks to decide, and replacing windows without consent is a criminal offence. We supply profile drawings and material specifications for the application, and our page on replacing windows in listed buildings covers the rest.

Get the approval first, then order to the approved drawings. Ordering first and applying later is how people end up with windows the council won’t accept. Building regulations still apply to a full replacement; our standard double glazed windows have a whole-window U-value of 1.4 W/m²K, which meets Part L for replacement windows in England.

Delivery

Delivery to Enfield: Lead Time, Cost and Fitting

Each order is made in about 20 working days from order confirmation and deposit, then delivered to your Enfield address. Delivery is charged separately and shown on your quote.

We deliver across the borough: Enfield Town, Southgate, Winchmore Hill, Palmers Green, Edmonton, Bush Hill Park, Hadley Wood, Enfield Lock and the streets in between. Larger orders may qualify for free delivery.

We don’t install. The windows arrive factory-finished and double glazed, and your own joiner or builder fits them. Your fitter will want the sizes right first time, so read how to measure wooden windows for replacement before you send them over.

Payment is simple: a 50% deposit books production and the other 50% is due on delivery, by bank transfer. Next door? See our pages for timber windows in Barnet and timber windows in London.

Repair or replace

Sash Window Restoration or New Windows in Enfield?

We make new windows; we don’t restore old ones. If the frames are sound, a joiner who specialises in sash restoration can often save them for less than replacement.

New windows make sense when sills and frames are rotten, or you want double glazing. Our guide to repairing and maintaining timber windows helps you decide, and our timber sash windows on weights are balanced individually: each sash is weighed after glazing and the weights matched to it.

For casement windows, our timber flush casement windows start at £449+VAT for a single, £599+VAT for a double and £799+VAT for a Georgian triple.

Timber and prices

Which Timber Suits an Enfield Home, and What Does It Cost?

Engineered pine starts at £449+VAT per window and lasts 25–35 years when maintained. Meranti costs about 20–30% more and lasts 35–45 years. Solid European oak costs £799–1,299+VAT and lasts around 50 years.

European oakSolidAround 50 years£799–1,299+VATGrain on show, clear or stained

Engineered pine is the sensible choice for painted windows. Meranti, our hardwood option, is worth the extra on exposed elevations.

If you want the grain on show, solid oak windows are the choice; painting oak means paying for grain nobody sees. Meranti and oak are compared on our hardwood windows page, and every upgrade price is under timber window prices.
