Planning in Hillingdon

Do You Need Planning Permission for New Windows in Hillingdon?

Most houses don’t, if the new windows look like the old ones. Hillingdon has 31 conservation areas, from old village centres to canal-side buildings, so check whether yours is in one first.

The council explains its 31 conservation areas online and reviews them on a rolling basis. Being in one doesn’t by itself take away a house’s permitted development rights for windows, but an Article 4 direction does.

Flats have no permitted development rights, so new windows in a flat need planning permission. The government’s Article 4 direction dataset maps directions by council, though it warns the data isn’t complete.

Listed buildingListed building consentNational Heritage List for England

If the house is listed, any change to the windows needs listed building consent. Check the address on Historic England’s National Heritage List for England. Applying is free, the council has 8 weeks to decide, and replacing windows without consent is a criminal offence. We supply profile drawings and material specifications for the application, and our page on replacing windows in listed buildings covers the rest.

Get the approval first, then order to the approved drawings. Ordering first and applying later is how people end up with windows the council won’t accept. Building regulations still apply to a full replacement; our standard double glazed windows have a whole-window U-value of 1.4 W/m²K, which meets Part L for replacement windows in England.

Delivery

Delivery to Hillingdon: Lead Time, Cost and Fitting

Each order is made in about 20 working days from order confirmation and deposit, then delivered to your Hillingdon address. Delivery is charged separately and shown on your quote.

We deliver across the borough: Uxbridge, Ruislip, Northwood, Ickenham, Harefield, Hayes, West Drayton and the streets in between. Larger orders may qualify for free delivery.

We don’t install. The windows arrive factory-finished and double glazed, and your own joiner or builder fits them. Your fitter will want the sizes right first time, so read how to measure wooden windows for replacement before you send them over.

Payment is simple: a 50% deposit books production and the other 50% is due on delivery, by bank transfer. Next door? See our pages for timber windows in Harrow and timber windows in Ealing.

Aircraft noise

Do Acoustic Windows Help Near Heathrow?

They help. Every window is double glazed as standard, and acoustic laminated glass adds £100–150 per window. For homes in Hayes, West Drayton and the south of the borough, that is the upgrade most worth having.

Triple glazing adds 25–35% to the price and makes each window about 50% heavier. For most homes it isn’t worth it for noise alone; acoustic laminated double glazing is the better buy. Our guide to acoustic windows explains what it does and doesn’t do.

Draughts let noise in too, so seals matter. Our timber sash windows on weights are balanced individually: each sash is weighed after glazing and the weights matched to it. Flush casement windows start at £449+VAT for a single.

Timber and prices

Which Timber Suits a Hillingdon Home, and What Does It Cost?

Engineered pine starts at £449+VAT per window and lasts 25–35 years when maintained. Meranti costs about 20–30% more and lasts 35–45 years. Solid European oak costs £799–1,299+VAT and lasts around 50 years.

European oakSolidAround 50 years£799–1,299+VATGrain on show, clear or stained

Engineered pine is the sensible choice for painted windows. Meranti, our hardwood option, is worth the extra on exposed elevations, and solid oak windows are the choice if you want the grain on show.

Our page on double glazed timber windows explains what goes into the standard unit. Meranti and oak are compared on our hardwood windows page, and every upgrade price is under timber window prices.

Timber Windows in Hillingdon: FAQ

Do acoustic windows help under the Heathrow flight path?

–

+

They help. Every window is double glazed as standard, and acoustic laminated glass adds £100–150 per window. Triple glazing adds 25–35% to the price and makes the window about 50% heavier, so for most homes acoustic double glazing is the better buy.

Do I need planning permission for new windows in Hillingdon?

–

+

Usually not for a house, if the new windows look like the old ones. Hillingdon has 31 conservation areas, and an Article 4 direction would change that, so check your address with the council first. Flats and listed buildings need consent anywhere in the borough.

Do you install timber windows in Hillingdon?

–

+

No. We are supply only: we make the windows to your sizes, factory-finish and double glaze them, and deliver them to your Hillingdon address. Your own joiner or builder fits them. If you haven’t got a fitter yet, line one up before you order so they can check the openings and the sizes.

How much does delivery to Hillingdon cost?

–

+

Delivery is charged separately and shown on your quote, so you see the full cost before you pay the deposit. Larger orders may qualify for free delivery. Windows are made in about 20 working days from order confirmation and deposit, and the balance is paid on delivery by bank transfer.

No. We don’t have showrooms: we sell direct by phone, email and our quote form. Send your sizes and photos and we’ll send a detailed quote within 48 hours, with the delivery charge shown. Finished jobs from around London are in our project gallery.
