Planning in Hounslow

Do You Need Planning Permission for New Windows in Chiswick or Hounslow?

In Bedford Park and Gunnersbury Park, very likely. Hounslow Council has Article 4(2) directions for both conservation areas, and changes to windows, doors and roofs there may need planning permission.

The council lists its directions on its Article 4 directions page, with a schedule for each area. Bedford Park straddles the border with Ealing, so check which council covers your house.

Elsewhere in the borough, a house keeps its permitted development rights for windows; flats don’t have them. The government’s Article 4 direction dataset maps directions by council, though it warns the data isn’t complete.

Listed buildingListed building consentNational Heritage List for England

If the house is listed, any change to the windows needs listed building consent. Check the address on Historic England’s National Heritage List for England. Applying is free, the council has 8 weeks to decide, and replacing windows without consent is a criminal offence. We supply profile drawings and material specifications for the application, and our page on replacing windows in listed buildings covers the rest.

Get the approval first, then order to the approved drawings. Ordering first and applying later is how people end up with windows the council won’t accept. Building regulations still apply to a full replacement; our standard double glazed windows have a whole-window U-value of 1.4 W/m²K, which meets Part L for replacement windows in England.

Delivery

Delivery to Chiswick and Hounslow: Lead Time, Cost and Fitting

Each order is made in about 20 working days from order confirmation and deposit, then delivered to your Hounslow or Chiswick address. Delivery is charged separately and shown on your quote.

We deliver across the borough: Chiswick, Strand on the Green, Brentford, Isleworth, Osterley, Hounslow, Feltham and the streets in between. Larger orders may qualify for free delivery.

We don’t install. The windows arrive factory-finished and double glazed, and your own joiner or builder fits them. Your fitter will want the sizes right first time, so read how to measure wooden windows for replacement before you send them over.

Payment is simple: a 50% deposit books production and the other 50% is due on delivery, by bank transfer. Next door? See our pages for timber windows in Ealing and timber windows in Richmond.

Aircraft noise

Acoustic Windows Under the Heathrow Flight Path

Every window is double glazed as standard, and acoustic laminated glass adds £100–150 per window. In Hounslow, Feltham and Isleworth, that is the upgrade most worth having.

Triple glazing adds 25–35% to the price and makes each window about 50% heavier, so for most homes it isn’t worth it for noise alone. Our guide to acoustic windows explains what acoustic glass does and doesn’t do.

In Chiswick, a period sash is more likely to be the question. Our timber sash windows on weights are balanced individually: each sash is weighed after glazing and the weights matched to it. Sashes on hidden springs start at the same £449+VAT.

Timber and prices

Which Timber Suits a Chiswick or Hounslow Home, and What Does It Cost?

Engineered pine starts at £449+VAT per window and lasts 25–35 years when maintained. Meranti costs about 20–30% more and lasts 35–45 years. Solid European oak costs £799–1,299+VAT and lasts around 50 years.

European oakSolidAround 50 years£799–1,299+VATGrain on show, clear or stained

Engineered pine is the sensible choice for painted windows. Near the river at Strand on the Green, meranti, our hardwood option, is worth the extra on exposed elevations.

If you want the grain on show, solid oak windows are the choice; painting oak means paying for grain nobody sees. Meranti and oak are compared on our hardwood windows page, and every upgrade price is under timber window prices.

Very likely. Hounslow Council has Article 4(2) directions for the Bedford Park and Gunnersbury Park conservation areas, which can bring changes to windows, doors and roofs under planning control. Bedford Park straddles the border with Ealing, so check which council covers your house before you order.

–

+

No. We are supply only: we make the windows to your sizes, factory-finish and double glaze them, and deliver them to your Chiswick address. Your own joiner or builder fits them. If you haven’t got a fitter yet, line one up before you order so they can check the openings and the sizes.

Do acoustic windows help under the Heathrow flight path?

–

+

They help. Every window is double glazed as standard, and acoustic laminated glass adds £100–150 per window. Triple glazing adds 25–35% to the price and makes the window about 50% heavier, so for most homes acoustic double glazing is the better buy.
