Project: Low-Maintenance Sashes for City Terrace Renovation
Birmingham terraces get dirty fast—urban pollution, traffic grime, industrial fallout. This Balsall Heath renovation needed sash windows that would cope with city conditions without constant repainting.
We specified engineered pine with Teknos factory-applied paint system—two primer coats, one undercoat, two top coats. Better coverage, longer lasting, and 10-year repaint cycle instead of the usual 5-year.
Hidden spring sash mechanisms meant no external weight pockets to maintain, and we fitted easy-clean tilt function so the homeowner can wipe both sides of the glass from inside. Sounds like a gimmick but in a terraced house with no rear access, it’s genuinely useful.
The project covered the full frontage across two floors, manufactured in 4 weeks, installed in one day. We templated everything precisely because these Victorian terraces have settled over 130 years—nothing’s square or plumb.
Homeowner’s been in 2 years now. Windows still look factory-fresh, operation’s smooth, and he’s not spending weekends on a ladder scraping paint. Sometimes the best design is the one that just works without fuss.
