Project: Front & Rear Window Replacement in Conservation Area
Edwardian terraces in Southampton’s conservation areas come with rules. The council wants timber, they want sash windows at the front, and they want approval for everything.
This particular house needed complete front and rear window replacement. For the street elevation, we built Georgian-style sliding sashes with hidden spring balances—gives you the period look without the maintenance headaches of cord-and-weight systems. Painted in Dulux Brilliant White to match neighbouring properties.
Round the back, we fitted flush casement windows in the same engineered pine but with horizontal glazing bars. Less formal, better ventilation for the kitchen and bathrooms, and honestly more practical for everyday use.
The homeowner did his homework before contacting us—he knew exactly what the council would approve and what they’d reject. Made our job easier. Windows were manufactured in 4 weeks, installed in 2 days, and planning consent sailed through because we’d matched the existing design language of the terrace.
Year later, his neighbour ordered the same setup. Word gets around on these streets.
