Project: Painted Casement Windows for Creative Quarter Property
Brighton’s different. People take more risks with colour, design, style. This property in the North Laine needed new windows but the owner didn’t want boring standard joinery.
We made flush casement windows in engineered pine with slim horizontal glazing bars, then painted them in Little Greene’s Invisible Green—a deep, moody shade that changes dramatically with the light. Black hardware, concealed trickle vents, and slimline double glazing kept things contemporary.
The trick with bold colours is preparation. We applied Dulux Trade primer, undercoat, and two top coats in controlled factory conditions—far better finish than site painting ever achieves. Total paint system thickness around 150 microns for long-term durability.
Installation was straightforward but the impact was immediate. Neighbours stopped to comment, Instagram photos followed, and the house went from “scruffy rental” to “cool creative space” overnight.
Cost-wise, these windows weren’t significantly more expensive than standard white—just the paint specification changed. But the perceived value jumped considerably.
If you’re in a conservation area, this won’t fly. But if you’ve got freedom to experiment, why not? Windows don’t have to be white, and timber takes colour beautifully.
